Preparing For Your Courses
Technical Requirements and Resources
Once you’ve received your access and we’ve confirmed that it’s time to register, you will register yourself for classes using the myLongwood system.
Please view the online Registration Tutorial below, which outlines how to add and drop courses.
Remember that it’s ideal to enter the CRNs (Course Registration Numbers) directly. If you don’t have the CRN(s), please search using “Professional Studies-Education” as the subject.
You may begin this coursework at any point in the sequence, though many prefer to begin with the Introduction course. You’ll find the sequence below and also online at this link.
Fall
Spring
Summer
The VDOE requires 3 core courses * (9 credits) and 1 elective ** (3 credits) for a total of 12 credits.
If you have taken any of these courses at another institution, you won’t need to transfer them to Longwood; you’ll simply submit both transcripts to the VDOE when you apply for the endorsement.
Add/Drop
If your plans change quickly after registering, please drop promptly to avoid financial responsibility and allow another student to take your place. The published drop deadline is the last day you can drop your courses without tuition charges.
To drop by the add/drop deadline:
If you need to drop your courses but have a hold on your account, this is likely due to a tuition balance. Please contact the Registrar’s Office at 434.395.2580 or registrar@longwood.edu for assistance. You will need to complete a Schedule Change Form and submit it by fax or email to their office.
Withdrawal
The withdrawal period begins after the drop deadline. To withdraw from a course for no academic penalty:
If you need to withdraw from a course but have a hold on your account, this is likely due to a tuition balance. Please contact the Registrar’s Office at 434.395.2580 or registrar@longwood.edu for assistance. You will need to complete a Course Withdrawal Form and submit it by fax or email to their office.
In order to withdraw from ALL courses, please complete a University Withdrawal Form and submit it to the Registrar’s Office by email to registrar@longwood.edu.
Withdrawal after the deadline may only be considered for medical or other non-academic emergencies. You may submit a written withdrawal request (and supporting documentation from a physician or other applicable support) by email to professionalstudies@longwood.edu. This must be done by noon ET on the last day of class.
Withdrawal does not remove tuition and fee charges. You may submit a Tuition Appeal Form after withdrawal if you feel your circumstances merit.
These courses are offered at the professional studies rate of $295 per credit (in-state), or $365 per credit (out of state). These rates include a $10 per-credit technology and infrastructure fee, effective fall 2025.
After registration, you may pay your tuition in myLongwood. Select the ‘Student’ tab and click on ‘My Student Account.’ You’ll see the option to view your account information, which will lead to the TouchNet Payment Gateway where you can view your bill, make payments, set up authorized users, enroll in the Graduate Monthly Payment Plan, etc.
Please keep these payment due dates in mind:
If payment is not made by the due date, a hold will be placed on your account which will prohibit adding or dropping. If you have a hold on your account and are still within the add/drop period, please contact the Registrar’s Office at 434.395.2580 or registrar@longwood.edu for assistance.
Order your textbooks from any bookstore of your preference or the Longwood University Bookstore.
Canvas is the learning management system you’ll use to access your course. Login at http://canvas.longwood.edu/
Check your Longwood email. Once activated, this is the method used by all University offices and faculty to communicate with you. Alternately, you may choose to forward your Longwood email to an account you monitor regularly. You may set this up in your email settings.
