Access and Course Registration
  • You’ve been assigned a Longwood ID, e-mail address, username, and temporary password for access to the myLongwood system, your portal for registration, billing, and many other features.
  • Information Technology Services (the Help Desk) will email your access information to the email address you provided on your application. Please monitor your spam/junk mail folder in case the message goes there.
  • If you do not receive the access information within 2-3 business days of acceptance, please call the Help Desk at 434.395.4357 or toll-free at 877.267.7883 for assistance. Their hours of operation are Monday through Friday, 7:30 am – 5:00 pm ET.

Once you’ve received your access and we’ve confirmed that it’s time to register, you will register yourself for classes using the myLongwood system.

Please view the online Registration Tutorial below, which outlines how to add and drop courses.

Please remember that it’s ideal to enter the CRNs (Course Registration Numbers) directly.  If you’re searching by subject, however, select Professional Studies – Education as the subject.  Be sure to select the section that is relevant to your assigned cohort.

Drop and Withdrawal

This cohort offering requires your enrollment from beginning to end.  Should you decide to drop, you are dropping yourself from the entire cohort, though you can return the following year to resume your studies.

The published drop deadline is the last day you can drop your courses without tuition charges.

If you need to drop your courses but have a hold on your account, this is likely due to a tuition balance.  Please contact the Registrar’s Office at 434.395.2580 or registrar@longwood.edu for assistance.

The withdrawal period begins after the drop deadline.  In order to withdraw, please complete a University Withdrawal Form and submit it to the Registrar’s Office by email to registrar@longwood.eduWithdrawal does not remove tuition and fee charges.

Withdrawal after the deadline is considered for medical or other non-academic emergencies.  You may submit a written withdrawal request (and supporting documentation from a physician or other applicable support) by email to leadership@longwood.edu.  This must be done by noon ET on the last day of class.  Please note that all tuition and fee charges will still apply.  You may submit a Tuition Appeal Form after withdrawal if your circumstances merit.

Payment

These courses are offered at our professional studies rate of $295 per credit (in-state), plus a $25 internship fee each semester.

  • Each semester costs $2,090; the entire cost for three semesters (21 credits) is $6,270. (Rates effective fall 2025)

As this is not a degree program, these courses don’t qualify for federal financial aid.  However, the University offers a Graduate Monthly Payment Plan during fall and spring, which allows participants to make up to four payments each semester.  (Please note that the plan is not currently available during the summer.)  You may enroll in the plan once you’ve registered for courses.

After registration, you may pay your tuition in myLongwood.  Select the ‘Student’ tab and click on ‘My Student Account.’  You’ll see the option to view your account information, which will lead to the TouchNet Payment Gateway where you can view your bill, make payments, set up authorized users, enroll in the payment plan, etc.

Payment is due at the time of registration, but please keep these dates in mind:

  • FALL e-bills are generated in early July, due in August
  • SPRING e-bills are generated in mid-November, due in January
  • SUMMER e-bills are generated in mid-May, due in July
Preparing for Your Course

Order your textbooks from any bookstore of your preference or the Longwood University Bookstore.

Canvas
is the learning management system you’ll use to access your course.  Login at http://canvas.longwood.edu/

Check your Longwood email. Once activated, this is the method used by all University offices and faculty to communicate with you. Alternately, you may choose to forward your Longwood email to an account you monitor regularly. You may set this up in your email settings.

Attendance and Participation Policy

Your advisor and your instructors, once assigned, will handle all attendance issues. While we have a strict attendance policy with only five meetings in fall & spring and four in summer, we know life happens and one absence per semester may be excused. There will be points taken off the overall grade. Just let your instructors know once classes have begun and they will work with you to discuss implications and possible arrangements. We will encourage them, in such situations, to collect documentation for the reason class needs to be missed.

Policy (as stated in syllabus):
Attendance for hybrid courses requires two aspects of student engagement and presence—in-person and online. Absences from in-person and synchronous virtual meetings are detrimental to the learning community model and are not permitted with few, well documented, exceptions. Class meeting dates are distributed prior to the term and any pre-existing conflicts should be addressed with the instructor immediately. All excused absences require documentation. You are expected to stay abreast of the readings and assignments and to actively participate in class discussions.

The online portion of the class is equally important and can get away from you if not carefully scheduled. Take the time to review your online commitments, schedule regular and consistent times to be online, and stick to the schedule. You are expected to participate in all Canvas activities. Failure to participate in Canvas activities may impair academic performance and result in a lower grade. You must assume full responsibility for an online presence.

  • Students are expected to participate in all virtual and in-person class activities. Instructors have the right to assign a course grade of “F” when the student has missed a total (excused and unexcused) of 25 percent of the scheduled virtual and/or in-person class meeting times.
  • Students must assume full responsibility for any loss incurred because of absence.
  • Module assignments are due on the assigned date.

In no case should assignments for this course be ones that have been submitted for another course. Mere submission of work does not guarantee a passing grade. Grades are assigned on the quality of the work according to the professional judgment of the instructor.

You must maintain a 3.0 grade point average in order to receive University verification of coursework completion.
